The Importance of Welsh LERC Data

This CEH report for Welsh Government (WG) shows the importance of the data held by the Welsh Local Environmental Records Centres (BIS, Cofnod, WWBIC & SEWBReC). The report is a review of the contribution species records, held by the Welsh LERC's, make to ERAMMP (Environment & Rural Affairs Monitoring and Modelling Programme) Evidence Needs. In 2019-20 the Welsh LERCs were funded by Welsh Government to contribute LERC species data to the ERAMMP project.

All About Biological Recording - new videos by the FSC

The FSC in partnership with Eco Sapian have produced 3 short you tube videos on biological recording, covering what records are, how to submit them and why they are important. The aim is to encourage more people to start recording. See our 'Get Involved' section to read about submitting records to BIS.

A New Moths List for Wales

A list of all moth species recorded in Wales has just been launched by Butterfly Conservation. You can download and see this list by visiting the BIS website Library. Click on the Library tab above.

Recording an unidentifiable bat in Wired

Wired, our online recording site, now has a form to record an 'Unspecified Bat Record'. Find it in the 'Record' tab along with the other ways to submit a record. Although not as useful as a species record it may yield some useful records and data. Be sure to add any information that may enable a species ID and if it was seen flying in the daytime. Bats identified to species should be submitted in the usual way.

SaSq's for January 2020

Our three under recorded squares for January have very few records and no recent records, that is since 2010. They are near Beulah, New Radnor and Newtown. Can you help fill the recent gaps in our maps by recording any wildlife in these sqaures.

Our latest selected squares are all in need of more recent records. Insect Declines and Why They Matter - a new report

A new report by renowned insect expert Dave Goulsen commissioned by the South West Wildlife Trusts. It explains why insects declines are of serious concern and suggests measures to address the decline. Read it as a pdf in the Library tab or click here.

BIS Managers report to members 2018-19

BIS held its AGM on 20th November where the BIS managers report was presented for 2018-19. This is a summary of all the BIS achievements over the financial year to March 2019. This can be downloaded from the BIS library or click on the report link.

Aculeates Vice County Recorders (VCR's)
