John Bishop of the MBA found the
invasive non-native brown seaweed Undaria pinnatifida (Japanese kelp
Wakame) at Holyhead marina on the visitors berths yesterday (11th June 2014). He was surveying
there as part of a Welsh Government funded project (Resilient Ecosystems fund)
surveying marinas in Wales for non-native marine species.
This is the first record of this
species in Wales but not surprising as it is has been found in several other
parts of the Irish Sea recently. More information about this species and it's
UK distribution can be found on the marlin website at http://www.marlin.ac.uk/speciesinformation.php?speciesID=4547
